About Me
My name is Prescott Lawani. I Develop Software, Websites and Video Games. I Make Art and Music.
When I was very young, I played Super Mario Brothers, Zelda I and Zelda II. I also played a lot of beat em up games with my broher and two sisters in the arcades.
Some of my favorite games were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, X-Men, and The Simpsons, which we played from beginning to end. We spent a LOT of quarters!!
As I got older I started playing Mortal Kombat. My main was Lui Kang
Playing games is very fun, it defined me. I started drawing my own comic books by hand to tell stories.
It helped me make many friends in middle and high school because I made a character for all my friends.
This comic, called Magick Tripp, helped me express myself and get my creative juices following.
In it, I made my own Battle System, a series of rules, cards, dice, statistics, move sets, etc, that I gave
my 100+ characters to make them distinctive.
I drew it from the 5th grade until my sophomore year in college.
I didn't just draw. In school, I loved Math, Football, Music, and Technology. I became a certified Microsoft Office Specialist in high school and had really good grades.
Including a 101 in English!
In my teens, there was this amazing game, which looked like The Legend of Zelda: A Link to The Past, but it was ONLINE! MULTIPLAYER!
It was so much fun. I had dial-up internet and used the lag to win in PVP and other adventures. It was called Graal Online and many people still remember it.
My favorite part though was the Single Player Mod mode. I didn't play Doom at that age.
So I didn't know about the modding community, but I did learn the basics of the C Programming language with Graal.
I drew my own characters and objects and added functionality with the code.
I went to University of Texas at Dallas in 2004-2008 and got my Bachelors of Arts in Art and Technology.
I learned things like Programming Priniciples, 2D Design in Photoshop, 3D Modeling in Maya, Game Design and Game Development.
In 2015, I got into a serious relationship. By this time, my life had taken a turn and I found myself doing delivery driving jobs and music.
My girlfriend at the time, saw me making a video game in software called RPG Maker and she said I should be making games for a living.
Originally, I had applied, quite often, to Gearbox Software. They never accepted me and only "hired" me for
Beta Testing roles (unpaid by the way, but I did get swag which was cool.)
So, it made me feel like I wasn't cut out for game development, hence getting into driving and music jobs
It wasn't until she said this that I decided to take games even more seriously. No one ever told me I could do it
I'm greatful for the role she played in my life. We aren't together anymore but she is my best friend.
In 2020, things got crazy from the pandemic. I decided to take the downtime to make a serious commercial game.
After 3 years of learning and developing in Unreal Engine, I released Lockes The Thief. I learned quite a bit from the work.
I learned the importance of marketing (a big one) and made a few friends and aquaintances along the way.
I tried to make a 2nd game, but nothing has grabbed me quite like that first one. So, I'm going back to the drawing board for how to approach Game Development.
My goal is to become a full time game dev, either by getting offered a job or finding the keys to indie success.
I plan on going in hard in the year 2026. Let's see where it leads me.
